Cobbs Farm Update: May 2022
The Spring weather has for the most part been kind to us. But we wouldn’t be farmers if we didn’t moan about something and we really could do with some rain now! Our Asparagus is tasting as fine as ever, but picking is slower due to the lack of rain – but at least it means the slugs are less active!
In the vineyard we have been out on frost watch, having to deploy our frost protection system on a couple of occasions. The vines are now putting on good growth and we’re keeping everything crossed that the last frost is behind us.
Our new bees have taken residence at the top of the farm; 12 new hives and plenty of busy bees going about their business. We can’t wait to taste their produce when it comes, all of which will also be available in our shops; a great local hay fever remedy.
It has been wonderful to see the areas we put into Stewardship last year burst into life – dense swards of clover and other wild flowers all coming to life and providing a wonderful habitat for the various animals. Spring really is a wonderful time of year on the farm.
