Celebrate Afternoon Tea week 2021

Mothering Sunday Tea_2.jpg

A week-long celebration of the great British tradition of taking afternoon tea will be taking place across the UK on the second week of August. This year the dates fall on Monday 9th - Sunday 15th August.

If you haven't joined us at Cobbs yet for one of our afternoon teas, perhaps this is the perfect excuse to treat yourself and a friend.

Our afternoon teas are the perfect treat for special occasions. You will get spoilt for choice with a selection of finger sandwiches, mini savoury and sweet treats, and scones with jam and clotted cream, all accompanied by a refillable pot of tea.

If you would like more than just a cup of tea with your afternoon tea, you can also add on a glass of our very own English Sparkling Wine from Alder Ridge.

Afternoon tea history

Did you know afternoon teas were first introduced in Britain in 1840 by Anne, the seventh Duchess of Bedford?

It's thought that Anne felt a little tired in the afternoons and began ordering a tray of tea, bread and butter, and cakes to stem her hunger before her evening meal. Wow, genius idea Anne, thank you very much!

Although Anne took her afternoon tea late afternoon, you can enjoy an afternoon from the late morning at Cobbs.

We freshly prepare all our afternoon teas which is why you must pre-book online before visiting. We also sell gift vouchers for afternoon tea which are available to buy from us in the cafe.
