What is Sourdough September?
The annual celebration of genuine sourdough and the people who make it!
This year is the 11th annual Sourdough September. A worldwide campaign to help everyone discover that: Life is sweeter with sourdough!
The main aims of #SourdoughSeptember are to encourage people to:
Aim 1: Bake genuine sourdough bread
Aim 2: Buy genuine sourdough bread from small independent shops, or better still, directly from the bakeries
Aim 3: Boost the Real Bread Campaign, the charity behind Sourdough September. Read more about the Read Bread campaign in our blog.
Let's talk about the Hobbs House Bakery St Martin Sourdough!
This mighty malted sourdough is proved for 14 hours; it has a delicious chewy texture and flavoursome crust. This substantial loaf weighs an impressive 1.25kgs and can keep you going all week. It is a great daily bread, perfect for sandwiches and toasties, toasting, or slathering in butter.
The name St Martin derives from their head baker Martin, who created this beauty of a loaf.
Available at our Hungerford, Englefield and Winchester farm shops.
Bake your own Sourdough!
If you fancy baking your own sourdough you can buy the Hobbs House Bakery Sourdough Starter online here. This is a living, multi-award-winning wild yeast culture that has been fed daily for 66 years - incredible really!
Hopefully, this blog will inspire you to either buy or bake, some proper Sourdough this September.
