Did you know that on Cobbs Farm, we have nearly 1,000,000 resident honey bees? These are looked after by Rob, who is not only our wonderful bee-keeper but also the Chair of the Bee Farmers Association.

Rob brought his bees to Cobbs Farm earlier this year, during the spring, and, very impressively, we managed to get a fantastic 300kg of honey from our first spring crop.

Under the guidance and supervision of Rob, Tom and Katie were lucky enough to visit the beehives over the summer. It was an incredible experience, and although the bees were not interested in them, it was slightly nerve-wracking surrounded by such a large volume of bees.

Rob demonstrated how he keeps the hives and how he collects the honey. He also managed to find the Queen Bee for Tom and Katie to see - identifiable by her white (painted) head and longer body. She spends her time in the hive laying eggs that hatch 21 days later into a mature female.

The bees have been enjoying the wildflower mixes we planted last year on the farm and the pollen from our asparagus plants. Although there is no nectar to collect from asparagus, the pollen is a great source of protein for the bees to help them develop their colony.

Pop in and pick up a jar of (in our opinion) the most delicious Berkshire honey! Don't forget, if you suffer from hay fever, this honey will contain the antioxidants you need to help fight any pollen-related allergies.
